A case study of sandplay therapy for a child strongly adherent to a popular child

Abstract
This study presents a case of sandplay therapy for a 11-year-old child strongly adherent to a popular child. She has experienced separation anxiety with her mother after 12 months old and hardly established emotional attachment to her mother. After going to school Tourette syndrome has been emerged to her and severly struggled loneliness and lack of social skills with peer children. Thus she appears strongly adherent a popular child. Without her she has lack of self-confidence and has no relationship with her class. A total of 16 sessions of sandplay therapy serve an opportunity for the child to invite an emotionally permissive and safe environment for the child¡¯s expression. In addition the counselor support the client with close intimacy and unconditional positive regard. Otherwise the counselor provides the mother, who has lack of self-confidence as mother and parenting skills, to identify the base problem of child and show the construction as a metaphor of the child¡¯s world to understand her child better. This study indicates that the client has experienced to explore her struggles such as stress influenced parent¡¯s conflicts, lack of self-esteem, isolated from peer. Thus this case study shows that sandplay therapy can serve the child to release ambiguous anxiety of schooling and accelerate positive self esteem to build social relationship with peer group.
